National Science Week – 16th August

This month, The University of Queensland and the Queensland National Science Week Committee are hosting an event to celebrate the Science of Beer and Barbecues. Yes, you read that correctly. Science is finally getting its focus right! Everyone loves a good barbecue and what goes with a barbecue better than beer. We can’t think of many exhibits that lets you enjoy a cool beer as you stroll around viewing the displays in the exhibition area.

Japanese Culture Day – 17th August

There will be adults and children dressed head to toe in the traditional Japanese dresses and you can take part in the cultural activities taking place on the day. The Japanese Culture Day will be held at the Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens and having been run for the past 10 years, the event is one of the most popular at the Botanic Gardens. Also a nice little bit of information, the event is FREE!

Rhythms Around the World – 17th August

Newstead Park plays host to the Federal Band, a South Brisbane brass band that have an eclectic selection of music from around the world. If you’re a fan of brass music performed by large bands then you should definitely take yourself, family and friends down to the park for two reasons, live brass music is tremendous and when it’s free you’ll enjoy it even more!

The Valley Fiesta 2014 – 23rd August

Spread over three stages, Brisbane’s biggest street party is back! There’s lots to enjoy at The Valley Fiesta with, live music, fashion, food and markets to keep you entertained as this year there’s been a revamp to the format. Headlining the Fiesta this year is Preature. After the band’s success with their track “Is This How You Feel?” in 2013 and coming off a tour that saw them perform at the Texan “South By Southwest” music festival, they will be heading to Brisbane to do their thing for the buzzing crowd.
