This Week at The Gasometer Hotel
You should deffo head down to The Gasometer this week, see below for why…
Sunday 27th July
Stevie and The Sleepers with special guests – Free entry.
Doors 4.30pm
We cannot categorise the frontwoman of this outfit; part Soul mama, part wandering roots woman, Stevie Grumont leads a distinct assembly of artistic collaborators. The Sleepers play Rock and Soul, there’s a strain of Blues heartbreak behind the riffs, with the storytelling genius of a good 70s Folk tune. Add a peppered dash of cool gangster and you’ve got the Sleepers!
Monday 28th July …and every Monday from then on!
Rock & Pop Culture Trivia with Jess McGuire & George H – Front bar.
Doors 8pm.
Do you love Rock & Roll? Fancy yourself as quite the film buff? Find yourself constantly accused of watching too much television by judgmental friends and family? Well, why not turn your obsession with pop culture into an enjoyably boozy (and thoroughly educational) night out with mates! We have three rounds of trivia – the first is film and TV related, the second is all about music, and the third is a mixed bag of the first two plus anything else we feel like throwing in. A jug of beer is given away at the end of every round, and at the end of the evening, third place scores a frothy and refreshing jug of beer, second place scores a cheeky bottle of red (or an insolent bottle of white), and first place takes home 24 cold ones in slab form. Kick off is around 8pm, but it’s always best to get there early in order to ensure you are able to grab a table for you and your mates, and get your food order in. Book a table by calling 9416 3335. Totally free! Hosted by Jess McGuire (RRR, Defamer Australia) and George H (Shock Records).
Friday 1st August
Empire of Poets – album launch with The Scouts & Waywardbreed – $10 on the door.
Doors 8pm
Hawk Moth Records presents the long awaited launch of ‘Songs of Written Leaves’, the debut album from Melbourne Lo-Fi/Psych/Folk outfit Empire of Poets at The Gasometer. 18 months in the making, ‘Songs of Written Leaves’ is an intimate yet epic piece, with references spanning decades. Think Sparklehorse, Flaming Lips, Pink Floyd but also Sonic Youth, Elliott Smith, Neil Young, and none of the above. A rare and unique sound that both embraces the Lo-Fi spirit of its creators, while serving as a statement of intent for things to come. Supports on the night from alt-denim Country rockers The Scouts and the deep, dark song stylings of Waywardbreed. And for afters, it’s JJ “Bandcamp Hunter” Baker on the vinyl to swallow the night… Good times all round.
