Tigerlily Interview
Australia’s number one female DJ, Tigerlily is Electro’s sweetheart with bags of attitude. Whether playing to the dancefloor at Pacha Sydney or the crowds at Future Music Festival, her presence is astonishing, competing with the most heavyweight of names in the business. Here’s a little bit more about the little lady that’s captured the soundwaves home and abroad…
How did you first get into clubbing, which DJs most inspired you and what do you remember from your first club/festival/rave experience?
My first festival experience was Stereosonic 2010 and to this day it was hands down one of the most fun times I’ve ever had. I was only 18, so had just discovered the world of clubbing and Dance music and the crazy opportunities that this industry held. For me, this first festival experience wasn’t necessarily about any artist in particular, but instead, about a vibe, a dream, and about so many people coming together and sharing their love for Dance music. I think this experience was probably the first to open my eyes up to just how magical Dance music can be, and it really inspired me to pursue my dreams as a DJ, producer, and performer. I explicitly remember looking around at the people enjoying themselves and thought to myself, “I want to be a big part of what they are experiencing!” That feeling still motivates me to this day.
Which artist are you most looking forward to seeing and/or playing with in 2014 and why?
This year is going to be a great year for music in the Australian Dance scene and we are going to see some very talented artists grace our beautiful shores (not to mention, some very crazy Australian musicians come out of the woodwork). For me, I’m really looking forward to seeing deadmau5 play at Future Music Festival at the start of March. Deadmau5 was a very influential figure in regards to my DJ career. He inspired me to bring my knowledge of classical music and integrate it into my sets and production. Not to mention his production skills are near perfect and he is hands down my favourite producer. I remember seeing him for the first time when I was 18 years old at Creamfields in Sydney. He played the most beautiful set, and I was totally captivated by not only his performance, but also the whole atmosphere that went with it!
What have you got planned for 2014? What are you most excited for?
2014 is going to be such a fun and exciting year for me! There is so much going on, which is awesome. I’ve just released a single called ‘Faith’ with German duo 2Less. It’s out on iTunes & Beatport now and was released through ONELOVE. I’ve had such a positive response from this track, which is really exciting and humbling and it’s currently charting which is just phenomenal! I’m also mixing the ONELOVE Sonic Boom Box compilation CD and going on a National Tour with Zoolanda to accompany the CD! It will be in stores soon. Apart from that, I’m currently touring like crazy all over Australia and New Zealand, and concentrating all my energy onto my music and my performance! Oh, and I’ve just created an awesome super cute new app for smart phones. Pretty much it’s a photo editing application which allows you to ‘tigerlily’ your pictures with unicorns, rainbows, tacos, and glitter! It’s free to DL and you can get it through iTunes, just search ’Tigerlily’. YAY!
