Top 5 Destinations For Foodie Travellers

Follow us on Google News

If there’s one thing we all have a love of, it’s food. From the healthy to the indulgent, sweet to savoury and spicy, there are a world of flavours available and the best way to enjoy them all is to travel. These are our top 5 destinations for food, and we know fellow foodie travellers will love them just as much as us!

Morocco

spices in marrakech

With influences from the Mediterranean and Arabia, Moroccan cuisine is famous for its aroma and spices. Synonymous with the bustling street markets and winding alleyways, the flavours, ingredients and methods are intriguing, with rich soups, tasty tagines, couscous and sweet dips. There’s no doubt that the best place to sample the great array of food on offer is on the food stalls of the Djemaa el Fna night market of Marrakech. Don’t let the intense hustle and bustle overwhelm you and you’ll be in for a treat.

Italy

spaghetti and muscles italy

Possibly the most famous cuisine in the world comes from the Italians. You won’t find pizza and pasta better anywhere else, and what they can do with cheese, tomatoes and olive oil boggles the mind. Enjoy the softest dough at La Bifora Pizzeria Ristorante in Sicily, watch ravioli being made from scratch at Passioni di Pasta all’Uovo in Rome, and devour a meat and cheese Panini from Panini Toscani in Florence.

Japan

sushi in japan

While Japan isn’t all about sushi, it puts on one hell of a show. Originally a form of street food, sushi has become a food trend that has taken over the world, with creamy sea urchin roe, sweet shrimp and even kobe beef. Other Japanese dishes you can’t miss on a visit to the Pacific island include ramen (egg noodles in a salty broth), unagi (charcoal grilled river eel with BBQ sauce) and okonomiyaki (stuffed savoury pancake with a dried seaweed topping).

Thailand

pad thai street food thailand

Its curries are beginning to overtake the Indian variety and they do much more with nuts than just salt them, so there’s no wonder that Thailand is a foodie heaven. From pad Thai to Thai green curry, ingredients include papaya, galangal, cashew nuts, peanuts, cinnamon and lemongrass, but recipes and flavours change from region to region.

France

eurostar 20th anniversary

You can’t go to France without going to a food market. From onions to nougat and mustard to cheese, the French will eat what they like and make it to the highest standard. Veal and foie gras are on many a restaurant menu, which may dare you to go out of your comfort zone, but make sure to leave room for endless macarons and soufflé.
