Top Five Destinations From Sydney To Cairns

Follow us on Google News

Exploring Australia’s East Coast is on the top of every single traveller’s wish list and with so many extraordinary destinations to visit, we wouldn’t expect it not to do.

If you’re not sure entirely where and what to see when you are planning your trip up then don’t panic! BBM have taken the trip ahead of you and picked out the top five destinations that you need to visit to make your trip truly spectacular.

Bondi Beach

Bondi Market

For surf, sun, sand and beautiful people, New South Wales’ most known beach has to be your starting point as you kick start your trip from Sydney through to Cairns. Bondi is a suburb in the Sydney that brings the city and beach life together. The coast life doesn’t mean you are left to top up your tan and battle the water as you jump on a surfboard.

Stepping into the city proper, there are a number of trendy wine bars, restaurants that serve up delicious meals and markets for you to stroll through and entertain you away from the sand and sea. Bondi is a perfect starting point for any road trip and we won’t blame you for being tempted to stay around for another day.

Next on our journey up to Cairns is Surfers Paradise, which is 535.25 miles from Bondi and the drive will set you back 9 hour 40 minutes along a beautiful stretch of road.

Surfers Paradise

Surfers Paradise

Going up along the East Coast, there are a number of stunning beaches that will catch your attention, but none like Surfers Paradise. Aptly named, the stretch of beach is just that, a paradise that draws in the keen surfers time and time again.

Surfers Paradise offers a lot more than the ideal conditions to get into the water and look super cool as you ride the waves effortlessly on your board. At night, the city doesn’t sleep! There are a host of top nightclubs, bars, restaurants that will keep you partying all through the night.

Back on the road and the next stop on our trip is Brisbane. You’ll be on the road for a little under one hour for 48.75 miles.

Brisbane

Brisbane Koala

The “city for the senses” is one of East Coast Australia most interesting destinations as its tropical like climate and number of pristine parks and exotic rainforests are very exciting to visit. Unusual to most cities you come across, Brisbane’s rising skyline is mixed with the tropical flora and fauna which allows you to discover both the city and wildlife simultaneously.

For a more adrenaline rushing experience, you will love to explore the fantastic outdoor adventure activities that make Brisbane so famous. Kite surfing is a great way to kick start your day in Brisbane, where the most popular spots to get in the water and the air, are Brighton and Sandgate.

From Brisbane, we’re heading off to the Whitsundays and if you’re planning to stick with your car, it’ll set you back near to 12 hours on a 681.9 mile drive. But, we say ditch the hire care and book a flight. It’s only 1 hour 45 minutes!

Whitsundays

Whitsundays

A wonderful collection of 74 islands make up the Whitsundays and sure you can take the time to explore all 74 islands, but that would be crazy! Especially when you’ve got the rest of the East Coast to Cairns waiting to be discovered.

The Whitsundays is a special destination in Australia, not just on its East Coast. The islands are known for being the gateway to one of the world’s most amazing and diverse ecosystems, the Great Barrier Reef. But, before you jet off to one of the World Heritage Listed places we highly recommend you stop off on one of the stunning Whitsundays islands. With 74 to pick from, we’ll make it a little easy for you. Whitsunday Island (obviously), Daydream and Hamilton are one of the main islands that people travel to.

Onto the final destination on our Australia East Coast road trip and we’re ending it in Michaelmas Cay, Cairns. It’s another long journey north with the 386.25 mile drive to Cairns setting you back 7 hours. Then it’s only 22 nautical miles to Michaelmas Cay.

Michaelmas Cay

Michaelmas Cay

There isn’t many words better than pristine to describe Michaelmas Cay, which is a two hour cruise from Cairns but what a stunning scenic cruise it is. Upon your arrival, you will be taken back by the striking and picturesque tiny reef island that you only imagine to see on screen.

Michaelmas Cay boasts the most stunning waters that wrap around a stretch of beautiful white sandy beaches and just wait until you explore the waters. The marine life is something you just have to see to believe, as the water is teeming with life and we recommend that you take this opportunity to explore by snorkelling among the blend of fish, crustaceans and the hard and soft coral.
