Our universal love of food and drink could not be more appropriate than in Australia. Top of the list for seafood and steak, it’s Australia’s wine production that gets everybody heading to the rolling hills of the wine regions. In Western Australia, Margaret River is its most popular.
If you want to see what all the fuss is about, you can visit the boutique wineries of Margaret River with Vintage Wine Tours. Offering half and full-day experiences, these trips are fun and informative. On the $105pp full-day tour, you start with wine tastings at Leeuwin and Watershed Estates, before enjoying a lunch at Voyager Estate. You’ll then get the chance to sample chocolate, cheese and port, and purchase your favourites, from The Venison Farm, Olio Bello, Bettenays, Edwards Wines and more; or you may prefer a visit to a brewery to end your day of indulgence.
The half-day tour costs just $65pp, and involves a snapshot of Margaret River with a visit to Voyager Estate, tastings at the chocolate and cheese factories, and finishing at Venison Farm and Olio Bello. In just half a day, you’ll be introduced to wines such as Bettenays, Brookland Valley, Edwards Wines ad Redgate.
An even more in-depth tour can be had with The Leeuwin Margaret River Experience. At $145pp, this slower-paced tour involves a lesson in wine tasting at Watershed, before an exclusive tour of Leeuwin Estate and a chance to match wine with food like oysters and yabbies. When it’s time for lunch, you get to enjoy two courses in the award-winning Leeuwin Estate restaurant. The afternoon is spent at smaller vineyards, visiting the very first vines in Willyabrup, and tasting venison, chutneys, olive oil, chocolate and cheese to end the day on a full stomach!
As a small-group tour, you will be made to feel very special. With pick-up from your accommodation, friendly and experienced guides, and even the opportunity to ship wine abroad for you, the service is exceptional considering it only lasts one day. But take it from us, it’s one day that will leave you wanting more local food and wine from a beautiful region in the southwest of Australia, and there’s nothing wrong with that!
