Triple H Interview
Triple H is, of course, best known as a thirteen-time world champion with the WWE. But after cameos in Blade: Trinity and Saturday Night Live, he’s stepping into his first leading role in The Chaperone, which hits DVD and Blu-Ray on March 9. BBM’s BEN HARLUM stepped into the ring to interview ‘The Game’ about the release.
Is branching out into film something you always wanted to do, or did you fall into it when WWE launched its film division?
It wasn’t necessarily something I looked at and said that I wanted to do. But I’m at a different point in my career now so I’m ready to branch out and entertain more people in different ways than just inside the ring.
They say the first rule in show-business is not to work with children, but here you are in your first leading role driving a bus around full of children. What was your experience like there?
Well, here’s the thing. They say not to work with children if they’re not experienced actors. Luckily, I worked with probably the best group of kids around today. They were all so professional, especially Ariel Winter from Modern Family – she was amazing from the very first audition onwards.
Your career in the WWE has ranged from the very comedic DX to the serious ‘Cerebral Assasin’, I’m sure that experience in front of a live crowd prepared you for the film…
Oh yeah. What we do in the ring and on television is really just theatre. It’s no different to doing Broadway or being a stage actor – performing in front of that live crowd. I think the WWE is a great training ground for just about entertainment because you do it all when you’re working in the company.
Finally, I have to ask – you star alongside Yeardley Smith, the voice of Lisa Simpson. Please tell me you asked her to do the voice.
Oh I did! I got her to call my three-year old daughter as Lisa. My daughter was absolutely amazed how her dad managed to get Lisa Simpson to call her on the phone. It was great.
