Tyler James’ Single Tear
Tyler James has a new album on the way, and to give you a taster of what’s to come he’s unveiling his first new single ‘Single Tear’
Since signing a deal with Universal/Island Records, Tyler has been feverishly working in the studio, songwriting with the likes of Jamie Woon, Fraser T. Smith and Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am.
Single Tear was produced by Electric, part of the legendary Stargate production crew. An emotional gem, it’s an off centre pop song with a dark, almost eerie edge that announces Tyler as a songwriter and singer to be reckoned with. A second chance for an incredible, quality artist, his first album “The Unlikely Lad” included his duet with Amy Winehouse, Best For Me. Mitch Winehouse, in his book, My Daughter, credited Tyler for helping break Amy’s career by putting her CD in the hands of those at Island Records. Following The Voice, the album re-entered the iTunes chart in the Top 5 to immense critical acclaim.
“It came out of nowhere,” says Tyler, “It’s an emotional song, I think I’ve poured the last year into it, it’s the culmination of the most intense, life changing year of my life.”
“I’m inspired by so many artists,” says Tyler, “I learnt falsetto from Maxwell, I love Lauryn Hill and Otis Redding, people who sing with soul. That’s not about doing a million riffs – when they sing, I believe them.”
“It’s what I love doing,” says Tyler, “Writing songs, touring forever, it’s all I’ve ever wanted. So much has happened to me and I was never in the right place to write it down, write songs about it. Now everything is pouring out of me. Sometimes songs develop over long periods, other times they just come to me, but I love the craft.”
Discovered early in his career by producers Stargate and manager Simon Fuller since starring on BBC’s The Voice, when a nation fell for Tyler’s performances, he has appeared with his show mentor will.i.am at the Radio 1 Hackney Weekend and Isle of MTV in Malta. A stunning rendition of Maxwell’s own cover of Kate Bush’s This Woman’s Work for SBTV’s A 64 series proved that Tyler can do it anytime, anywhere. Along the way, has attracted a massive 180,000 Twitter followers.
Tickets are selling fast to his headline show at the London’s Shepherds Bush Empire in November. In fact, so quickly that two more dates have been added and go on sale Fri 31st August at 9am for Manchester Academy 3 (Sun 18th Nov) and Birmingham Glee Club (Mon 19 Nov).
Now, he is busy preparing the new album, scheduled for release in the autumn.
