Update on the New Skills in Demand Visa in Australia: The Australian Department of Home Affairs stated on December 7 that the Skills in Demand (SID) Visa will replace the Temporary Skills Shortage Visa. This change would take effect immediately. Three pathways are available under the new visa program: the Specialist Skills Pathway, the Core Skills Pathway, and the Essential Skills Pathway.

Update on the New Skills in Demand Visa in Australia: The key changes

1.  Time Period

With the new visa, all streams may remain for up to four years.

2. Criteria for English Proficiency

This English language level is based on the TSS visa’s Medium Term track and requires the same minimum score of IELTS 5.0 or PTE 36 across all sections.

3. Employer’s Financial Capacity

Companies now need to demonstrate their ability to pay the market rate for the position’s compensation throughout the entire visa period—a new financial capability criterion.

TSS visa applications are closed

There is a temporary halt to the acceptance of new TSS visa applications. They will continue to review applications submitted before to December 7, 2024. Follow the official page for more updates.

By taking into account stakeholder input and labor market research, the CSOL is able to meet the demands of the Australian labor market and fill skill gaps.
