Urban Single Reviews August 2013
We’ve found the hottest new Urban singles to put on our iPods for this August 2013. This month appears to be a bit of a mixed bag for Hip-Hop and Urban music, but be sure to check out these tunes after reading our reviews:
Lorde – Tennis Courts
Sedated Hip-Hop beats accompany Lorde’s effortless vocal style on ‘Tennis Courts’ as gentle claps provide the steady beat. The chorus steals the show with it’s slight increase in tempo and impressive layering making for an all round eclectic but intriguing track that manages to calm and excite at the same time.
Dizzee Rascal – I Don’t Need A Reason
After the unfortunate embarrassment that Dizzee Rascal’s last single left behind, it was clear he had a lot of making up to do. And thankfully new track ‘I Don’t Need A Reason’ may have just won him back some respect. Although lyrically quite irritating and repetitive, the bass driven track comes complete with his trademark flows and a memorable chorus cementing Dizzee back into his rightful place.
Justin Timberlake – Take Back The Night
Justin Timberlake and his unmistakeable sound strikes again with new single ‘Take Back The Night’. Seventies grooves nod warmly towards Michael Jackson’s unmatchable sound but with a more modern approach, bringing Disco right into the now. Although not necessarily his most popular sound, Timberlake amalgamates all that was right from the Disco era into one modern Urban-Pop tune.
