WALLACE Releases ‘Negroni Eyes’
Wallace Gollan, or simply WALLACE, has an undeniably unique and magnetic voice, using her award winning jazz trained vocals to create a rich layer of soulful harmonies generating future soul. She carries a sound others have labelled in a similar vein to Erykah Badu, Carmen McRae or Little Dragon.
The The track is produced by Adventures of Godriguez, whose signature sound is created by chopping up old jazz standards to make new beats.
“The lyric imagery in Negroni Eyes was inspired by a Frida Kahlo quote I saw scrawled in chalk on the wall of a Mexican restaurant in Wellington, NZ”, says Wallace. “I drank to drown my sorrows, but the damned things learned how to swim.” She continues saying “My mind conjured up an image of a person knee-deep, wading through alcohol inside their own brain, searching for the cause of the flood all the while knowing that they, themselves are to blame. I guess in a way it’s an ode to vices and their ability to mask problems.”
WALLACE won the ‘Best Vocalist’ award at the Queenstown International Jazz Festival and has also played at various festivals around New Zealand.
We’re anticipating big things for WALLACE amongst taste-makers in 2016, so watch out for this sultry songstress in the New Year.
