THE SISTERS OF MERCY (UK) – SOLD OUT
UK post-punk legends, The Sisters Of Mercy, will play this one-off Australian headline show. The show will be the only headline performance for the band in Australia who is touring as part of the Soundwave Festival in February and March. Despite numerous line-up changes, disputes with their record company, legal battles and internal dissent, The Sisters Of Mercy have remained at the forefront of the underground scene since their formation in Leeds over thirty years ago. Led by the ominous baritone vocals of Andrew Eldritch, with the infamous resident drum machine, Doktor Avalanche, Chris Catalyst and Ben Christo, the 2012 incarnation of The Sisters Of Mercy is “a lean and glittering groove machine for the new millennium, leaving the sullenly anachronistic reformations of their contemporaries far behind” (Metal Hammer).

ARIEL PINK’S HAUNTED GRAFFITI (USA) – GOLDEN PLAINS FESTIVAL SIDESHOW
Los Angeles underground cult figure turned international pop star, Ariel Pink’s sound is as sublime as it is surreal, loaded with hazy nostalgia and a fiercely experimental pop palette. Establishing himself as one of the most prolific songwriters and unique talents of his generation, Ariel Pink’s influence on today’s bands and genres has been profound. Ariel produces and plays almost all of his own music, and is noted for creating drum sounds using primarily his mouth and sometimes his armpits. His music has a very lo-fi sound, and after joining with other band members to become Haunted Graffiti, the band went on to be selected by Animal collective to perform at the All Tomorrow’s Parties festival they curated in May 2011. Having played Laneway in early 2011, Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti are back for Golden Plains and will play this sideshow.

STEFAN GROSSMAN (USA)
Stefan Grossman’s name is legendary. He witnessed Mississippi John Hurt, Son House, Skip James, Bukka White and learned from them all. Most of all Stefan Grossman learned from the great Rev Gary Davis and he acquired his ‘Kid Future’ nickname from being able to play Willie Brown’s arrangement of ‘Future Blues’. Stefan Grossman pioneered guitar teaching materials and has taught millions of people worldwide through his videos. Last seen in Australia in 1978, Stefan Grossman will bring ‘Fingerstyle Guitar – Blues, Ragtime to Beyond’ to this show in 2012. Released in 2011, Black Lips’ sixth album ‘Arabia Mountain’ was produced by Grammy-winning super producer Mark Ronson, but the band has by no means turned their backs on the storming punk and garage-rock that is the core of their confrontational style.
