DARK HORSES feat. TEX PERKINS (album launch)
Thursday 15 November 2012 8:00pm
Tex Perkins has shown us many faces over the journey. Frontman for the evocative soundscapes of The Cruel Sea and the hard edged pub rock of The Beasts of Bourbon, collaborator on the Tex, Don and Charlie outings, and compadre to Tim Rogers on the ‘TnT’ project. More recently seen in his turn in the Johnny Cash musical ‘The Man In Black’, Tex is back now once again to the lilting, dark country of Dark Horses, returning this October/November with a new album. The yet to be titled release shows yet another direction for the enigmatic singer/songwriter, while still filled with Perkins’ gravel-tainted vocals and poetic reveries, this record is a mature, poignant follow up to 2011’s self-titled album. The live set promises, as always, to be something special. Perkins’ world-weary growl will showcase songs from the new album, alongside gems like, ‘I Know You Know I Know’, ‘Splendid Lie’, ‘Real Love’, ‘A Name On Every One’, and ‘She Speaks A Different Language’. Stream the new album, ‘Everyone’s Alone’, in full here.
Ticket: $39.00 ($3.00 bf)

BLEEDING KNEES CLUB (single tour)
Saturday 17 November 2012 8:30pm

It’s time to break out the Band-Aids and brace your battered body one more time, as Bleeding Knees Club head out on a national tour in November to launch ‘Let It Go’, the final single off their debut 2012 album, ‘Nothing To Do’. These will be the last headline shows from the Gold Coast band before they bunker down to start work on their second album, and will also give fans the chance to hear many new songs road-tested that are earmarked for this next record. Support on all dates will come from Sydney shred-rockers Step-Panther. Of ‘Let It Go’, front man Alex Wall says “It’s actually one of my favourite songs on our album. It’s the first song Jordan and I ever wrote together, rather than separately. It’s all about keeping your cool, and not stressing out.” Recorded in NYC, ‘Nothing To Do’ has been rapturously received by critics since being released in March. Triple J Mag awarded it 9/10, while UK music bible NME hailed the band’s “undeniable knack for turning out two-minute garage-pop songs”. Bleeding Knees Club’s reputation for a rapid-fire live show has won fans and stressed-out security guards at venues the world over. Come and let it go with Bleeding Knees Club in November!
Ticket: $15.00 ($3.00 bf)

DARK FUNERAL (Sweden)
Saturday 24 November 2012 8:30pm

Swedish black metal outfit Dark Funeral return to Australia once again to terrorise our stages with “vast walls of sound” and their “classic black metal, with clouds of red dry ice and an ominous electronic drone announcing the songs” (Metal Hammer). It’s a spectacle you can only comprehend live and in the flesh. Featuring a new unholy line-up of committed conspirators, Dark Funeral bring their “magnificently brutal” Nordic black metal blizzard back to Australia to stake their claim amongst the premier elite of the black metal world. THE PRETTY THINGS (UK)
Tuesday 4 December 2012 7:30pm

London’s The Pretty Things, huge in the 1960s and ‘70s rock and roll scene, pioneered a raw approach to rhythm and blues (and later, psychedelia) that influenced a number of key bands from the 1960s British invasion, particularly The Rolling Stones, and David Bowie, whose first hero was Phil May. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the 1970 Rolling Stone ‘Album Of The Year’, ‘Parachute’, which they’re celebrating by releasing a two disc limited edition CD set and limited edition heavyweight vinyl. The band is also back on the road, currently touring Europe, and set to hit Australian shores this December.

GRIMES (Canada) – SOLD OUT – MEREDITH MUSIC FESTIVAL SIDESHOW
Wednesday 5 December 2012 8:00pm
GRIMES (Canada) – SOLD OUT – MEREDITH MUSIC FESTIVAL SIDESHOW
Thursday 6 December 2012 8:00pm

Following the announcement that Canadian visionary Grimes will make her anticipated Australian debut at Meredith’s Supernatural Amphitheatre, we can now reveal the Montreal-based artist will also embark on an East Coast tour this December, including this Melbourne show in support of her 2012 record, ‘Visions’. Developing amongst the DIY scene in Vancover in 2006; a scene where punk ethos and pop music collide, Grimes’ style has developed via bubblegum and K-Pop, hook heavy electronica and wild Eastern melody. The one-woman force has crafted a sound all her own across three self-produced albums – ‘Geidi Primes’, ‘Halfaxa’, and her most recent, the critically acclaimed ‘Visions’, recorded entirely from her Montreal bedroom. The album set the course for sold out tours of America and Europe, and appearances on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon and Later With Jools Holland. Looping and layering her stratospheric falsetto, Boucher’s hypnotic live shows mix contagious electronica and ethereal melody, with The Guardian naming a recent London performance “an explosion of youthful creativity, without rules.”
Ticket: $45.00 ($4.00 bf)
Guests: TBA

HOT SNAKES (USA) – MEREDITH MUSIC FESTIVAL SIDESHOW
Friday 7 December 2012 8:30pm
Once touted the saviours of rock ‘n’ roll, Hot Snakes (US) have reformed and are heading our way to play three shows only, with one in Sydney, one at Meredith Music Festival, and this Corner show. Founded in 1999 in San Diego, California, by John Reis (Drive like Jehu & Rocket from the Crypt) and Rick Froberg (Drive like Jehu), Hot Snakes certainly made their mark on the punk rock scene. Due to logistics (band members lived on almost opposite sides of the US) they called it a day soon after their last Australian tour, but now have reformed to play a small handful of shows at some of the world’s coolest music festivals heralded by an invitation from our very own Meredith Music Festival. The last time the lads landed on Australian soil was in 2006, at which time they also recorded a live studio album with ABC and Triple J, aptly named, ‘Thunder Down Under’. Watch the video for ‘Braintrust’ here.
Ticket: $42.00 ($4.00 bf)
Guests: SixFtHick and River of Snakes

An inspired performance and an emotionally charged response lead to an invite from Meredith.
