Winter Time In Sydney

Follow us on Google News

Get cosy, cotch and have a cuddle with your closest, add a mulled beverage, blankets and winter warmers – what do you get? A winter winner in Sydney.

Toasty treats are everywhere around Sydney in the winter, it’s just knowing where to find them. It’s a faux-pas that Australia doesn’t know how to provide a perfect winter experience after its blissful summer seasons. Sydney boasts a great collection of winter chasers across the city and the suburbs. You don’t have to spend a fortune to hide away from the cold. We’ve sussed out a few places that provide an escape from the chilly wind and dampening rain.

THE ROOSEVELT

For that mulled, melt in your mouth taste, go for the ‘Roosevelt Red Cocktail’ down at the Roosevelt in Sydney’s Potts Point. As the website states the Roosevelt Red is “mulled wine-esque perfection” and ideal for sharing. This place is great if you want to splash out a little and really warm those cockles. Wave goodbye to winter chills and say hello to that warm fuzzy feeling that you can only get from mulled magic. Their signature cocktails are perfect for winter months in Sydney and this place takes you back in time with a real vintage feel and buzzing atmosphere.

NAME THIS BAR

This place has such a chill out vibe without the chill factor throughout the winter months. What’s better than a good tune to warm you up? Name This Bar has some great local DJs playing and free snacks to accompany the amazing drinks they have on offer. The artwork on the walls is forever changing so this place never looks the same. Home to the ArtBattles of Australia, see some of the most creative art talent in Oz displayed here for all to see. The couches are over-sized and mega comfy; a perfect setting for a good game of scrabble or jenga to keep those fingers warmed up. There is free WIFI on offer, which is perfect if you need to email home while warming those chilly toes. Most importantly, they serve mulled cider. Bonus!

ARTHURS BAVARIAN BAKEHOUSE

This place has some of the best baked goodness in Sydney which is enough to get those icicles melting. It also offers free mulled wine tasting days. Keep your eyes peeled online for announcements through various foody websites. Arthur’s is a very small independent bakery with a big love for bread and mulled madness. It is exactly what the doctor ordered for those cold winter months in Australia.

GRANDMAS

It’s a bit like when your Grandma used to wrap you up warm and make you ‘as snug as a bug in a rug’. Grandmas’s bar has the blankets and cocktails to do the same kind of thing. Luckily the bar tenders haven’t got a purple rinse and baggy tights on their legs (they are called the Grandchildren though). This place gets packed and it’s easy to see why. Hot buttered rum or glogg (mulled wine) is just the ticket for that cold winter afternoon in Sydney (or at noon if its just too cold to do anything else). This Small Bar Finalist for the Sydney Business Awards 2011, comes with ‘faded Granny glamour’ and crocheted blankets to keep you warm as standard. $14 cocktails in a mug, this place serves cocktails that don’t half pack a warming punch.

POCKET

What do you get when you mix a load of warming booze, a small intimate bar, mood lighting and warming crepes? A winter wonderland to be enjoyed by all. Get mulled up and love the ambiance of this niche little hide out on Burton St in Darlinghurst. Add some quirky art murals and graffiti with some great attention to detail along with a mouth watering menu and there’s not much else you could fit in this little pocket of winter joy.
