World Landmarks Go Green For St Patrick’s Day
World Landmarks Go Green For St Patrick’s Day On 17th March, the world will witness some of it’s most famous landmarks illuminated green to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.
In a bid to increase overseas tourism for 2013, Tourism Ireland has announced that for the fourth year famous sites will be lit green, this will include Dubai’s Burj al Arab and major landmarks such as the wonders of the ancient world and middle ages – Pyramids of Giza and Leaning Tower of Pisa.
The Sydney Opera House that was brightly lit green last year will be amongst the many participating this year. Other sites that were seen in previous years, that will also join in for the celebrations this year include the Niagra Falls, the Prince’s Palace of Monaco, Table Mountain in South Africa, the Empire State building in New York, Burg Theatre in Vienna and Sky Tower in New Zealand.
In Britain, HMS Belfast in London and Manchester Town Hall will also ‘go green’ for the festivities.
However, Tourism chiefs hope the green lighting won’t end there and have written to the Queen asking if Buckingham Palace will also be ‘going green’ and have yet to receive a reply. In an attempt to help their case, the tourism agency will be revealing the unknown Irish ancestry of the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton.
The entire lighting scheme is said to cost an estimated £44 million.
