Wreck Diving From Geographe Bay
On the Western Australian coast looking out to the Indian Ocean, there are many underwater shipwrecks that make wreck diving from Geographe Bay an incredible experience for certified scuba divers. Drenched in history and now belonging to the ocean, here’s what you can expect at Lena Wreck and Swan Wreck.
Lena Wreck
The F.V Lena was sunk on purpose in 2003 after she was found to be illegally fishing in Australian waters (not of her own accord, of course, but by the hand of her crew). 18 metres underwater off the coast of Bunbury, she is now one of the top dive sites in Western Australia for all levels of diver. She may be small, but the marine life to be found in this shallow depth is astounding with seahorses, Western Blue Devil and Rock Lobster just some of the creatures you can spot.
The best time to dive Lena Wreck is between October and May. You can take a guided or unguided tour with The Dive Shed Busselton for $140, which includes transport, morning tea and a double dive.
Swan Wreck
Swan Wreck lies just 2 kilometres from Geographe Bay and is swallowed in depths of up to 31 metres of water. Purpose sunk in 1997, she’s one of the earliest prepared wrecks in all of Australia. Her many entrances and exits create a maze for recreational diving with hard and soft coral growing in and around the structure. When exploring the inner rooms, a torch is recommended. There are permanent and seasonal residents of Swan Wreck, including Yellow Tail King Fish and Samson Fish, as well as Pink Snapper, Whiting and Wobbygongs!
The best time to dive Swan Wreck is between October and May. A double dive is available for $160 from The Dive Shed Busselton, including transport, lunch and afternoon tea.
