Band of the Week: Knocking Ghost
Sorry, who?
With Halloween fast approaching, we felt it only right to sneak a little horrifying festivity into this week’s piece.
Don’t run for cover just yet though, Knocking Ghost are nothing to be afraid of. This West-London trio make electro-pop with a brooding edge that shouldn’t be ignored. The band originally started out remixing the likes of Erasure and Bastille (eclectic much?) before deciding to try their hand at making their own music. We’re glad they did too as what came out of it was wonderful debut EP ‘Distractions’ which lead to a headline show at Hoxton Bar and Grill and a subsequent spot at the Isle of Man Festival… impressive!
What do they sound like?
Can we be forgiven for saying that front-man Rob sounds a little like Coldplay’s Chris Martin? Is this acceptable? Has it been said before? We don’t care, he totally does, which doesn’t always spell trouble if it’s wrapped up in catchy synth tracks like most of Knocking Ghost’s efforts are.
They’re like a more polished version of what Frankmusik could have been (had he not sort of fizzled off the synth-pop radar) with plenty of cool sounds to jam to. If you’re up for something fun and new to add to your party playlist, then these are your guys!
What should I listen to?
Knocking Ghost’s new single, ‘Soul Aspiration’ is out on the 2nd December 2013 and is a really cool listen. It’s sleek and complicated with a lot of depth to it, definitely one that requires a couple of listens to appreciate.

Earlier track ‘Independent Girl’ is just as good though in a slightly different way. Its vocals are raw and unspoilt; you can here that they’re getting to grips with their sound in this early example of their work which is quite nice.
