Band of the Week: Vimes
Sorry, who?
Two Techno fiends and an enthusiastic drummer from Cologne make up the musical musings of Vimes. Azhar, Julian and Johannes have been together for little over a year but their beat-filled offerings have been making waves on the Electronic music scene, being noted for their original mixing of live instruments and electronic elements.
Their live shows are visually stunning. Expect to have all the senses tickled if you choose to attend a gig of theirs and believe us, you should; you’ll leave feeling truly satisfied.
What do they sound like?
We’re very sure Vimes have had comparisons a-plenty to Hot Chip, which is no bad thing. It’s also not surprising as they supported them in Mexico recently.
Their music stands out from a lot of emerging Electronic music in that it has soul. There’s real substance in everything that they put out which is refreshing in a market that’s currently saturated in wishy-washy twaddle.
Remember Yeasayer? They’re like what Yeasayer had the potential to be, had they not sort of fizzled out. Essentially, if you’re looking for multi-layered and deliciously complex music that still gets you up and moving, Vimes are for you.
What should I listen to?
Try their newest track, ‘Celestial’, which was released on 30th September 2013 through Humming Records. It’s like floating through space in the funkiest of spaceships with only a record player for company i.e. AWESOME. There are so many face-scrunching, head-nodding moments and plenty of opportunities to sing along with them.

For something a little different, give ‘House of Deer’ a go. The video is a seriously cool blend of one of their live sets and a clip of a weird, ice-skating man (we don’t know why but we won’t question it) which accompanies a pretty stunning track full of heavy drum beats.
