Big Day Out 2013 Announce Line Up
The Summer of 2013 will once again bring all the joy to many Australians and internationals alike with the release of the Big Day Out 2013 lineup over night. In the red corner, representing Shock Records, we have Crystal Castles, Delta Spirit and Alabama Shakes, all hitting the road to play the whole festival in 5 cities this January.
Crystal Castels are no strangers to our shores, last appearing on Falls Festival 2011/2012. Despite being on crutches due to a broken ankle, Alice Glass, along with producer Ethan Kath, smashed through a bunch of side shows which left people talking for long after their departure. It’s this incredibly hard-working attitude that has set them apart from any other electronic act. After details of Crystal Castles’ third album leaked online in March this year, we’re looking forward to not only seeing their upstanding live performance, but hearing what new material they will be bringing to the table.
California’s Delta Spirit are releasing their highly anticipated self-titled 3rd full-length album on August 10 this year. Combining indie-rock sounds with dreamy melodies and fast, punchy beats brought in by their two drummers, Delta Spirit is fast becoming our favourite new album of the year. Delta Spirit haven’t been to Australia since 2010, where they supported Ben Kweller, another Shock favourite, on a string of dates across the country.
Crowned as the buzz act at South by South West 2012, Alabama Shakes are coming to Australia – and Australia is ready. Fronted by Britany Howard, who is one of the most intensely vibrant front women to be seen in some time, Alabama Shakes released their debut album Boys and Girls through Rough Trade this year to incredible critical acclaim. The Independent (UK) summed it up perfectly in their 10/10 review; “Just a series of great, swampy soul grooves, fronted by the most arresting new voice you’ll hear this year, and the kind of natural songwriting that seems to contain the entire history of Southern music within its staves.”
