BlackBerry Messenger Becomes Available ‘In Stages’ For Android And IOS

Back in the not-so-distant past, everyone who was anyone seemed to own a BlackBerry. The ‘must-have’ accessory to any hand, the BlackBerry could always be found glued to its user as they blissfully bashed away on its minuscule keys for hours.

Fast forward a few years later down the line and we all realised that actually the phones weren’t that great… but now BlackBerry have bounced back as they unleash their deadliest weapon into the IOS and Android market – BBM.

No, of course we’re not talking about us, BBMLive; it’s none other than the BlackBerry Messenger app making a comeback!

Proven to be, at one point, the most popular messaging app around for BlackBerry users, the upgraded app is now finally being launched for Apple and Android users, following a month-long set back after the software originally got leaked.

The launch is now unfolding in stages, sending many on Twitter hashtag mental as they wait HOURS for their beloved app to reach them. BlackBerry insists that users should first download the free app in the IOS/Google Play store and enter their email, which will then alert them via message when the app is ready to use. Woopee.

With a reported five million users still in line for the app, BlackBerry are working hard to serve those who weren’t the die-hard fans to first sign up to the notification scheme back in September. However, although popularity for the app is currently soaring in the UK, the messaging market has changed since Blackberry Messenger had their day – and now it seems competitors like WhatsApp and WeChat stand in the way of poor old Blackberry Messenger reclaiming their #1 spot on the messaging throne.
