Take your camera and capture incredible images of Burma on a photography holiday. With Frui, you learn about lighting, composition and techniques from experienced tutors, in order to take the best photos of the landscapes, people, scenery and sights as you travel around Burma. Release your full potential and capture memories on film. Here’s all you need to know about what to expect on a photography holiday in Burma.
Why is Burma an ideal location to improve and inspire photography?
Burma offers such a wide variety of subject matter and experiences, from epic landscapes dotted with temples, to bustling street scenes in Yangon, to the tranquility of the fisherman on Inle Lake. Burma also now has a good tourism infrastructure, with first rate hotels, airports and ground operators, so people can experience all that this country offers while enjoying a few creature comforts.
What are the highlights of the tour and that you would suggest travellers take photos of?
For me, the highlight is seeing the sunrise over Bagan. This view is one of the world’s most spectacular. But Burma offers so many photo opportunities other than landscape. There are the Buddhist Monks, the intricacies of the ancient architectural details and everyday Myanmarese people on the streets of Yangon, Mandalay and in the villages around Inle Lake.
What do travellers learn on the tour in photography from the tutor? Is there a focus on landscape as well as close-up shots?
Depending on your level, you are able to learn the very basics and/or slightly more advanced techniques. As Burma offers such a variety of subject matter, guests are able to try their hand at landscape, portraiture, architectural and street photography. As the holiday is also 11 days, you have plenty of time to absorb yourself in your photography. So even if you’re not sure what photographically floats your boat, you’ll certainly have a much better idea by the end.
What experience does the tutor have?
Our tutors are the best in the business! Not only because they are successful working photographers across travel, editorial, advertising and fine art, but also because they are experienced guides. So, as well as inspiring you to improve your photography, they are also there to help with your bags, keep the wine flowing and take you to the very best local restaurants and bars!
What’s included in the tour? Are there opportunities to take photographs in each activity/location?
Everything is included in this tour apart from your international flights and dinners. In terms of photography excursions, you are free to join in on everything. In fact, it’s very rare that people do not take part in all the photography workshops and shoots that we offer. Not just because there’s always an opportunity to learn new skills, but also because this is a very social holiday where, for example, we look at each-other’s images at the end of each day.
Do travellers need to bring their own camera? What type of camera does the tour suggest?
Yes, people need to have their own camera. There is no specific kind of camera that we recommend, however, it does need to have manual functions as this gives you more creative control over your shots. So DSLRs, Compact System and Bridge cameras are all ideal.
Do travellers need much previous experience in photography?
It’s not essential to have previous experience as our tutors cover the basics at the very start of the holiday with whoever feels they needs it. We tend to also focus more on your creative ideas rather than your technical ability. That said, getting to grips with some fundamental techniques is helpful.
Are the tour groups a big size? What age range do you generally find in each group? Can travellers book in pairs?
Groups tend to be between 6 – 10 people. Mostly people are between 28 and 50 years old. People often come in pairs, but more commonly they are solo travellers who book by themselves. It’s worth mentioning that at Frui, we charge no single supplement and everyone gets their own en suite room as standard.
What’s the cost of the Burma holiday and what’s included in the cost? Are there optional extras?
£2350 and that includes everything apart from your international flights and evening meals and drinks.
