When the weather’s warm and the day is long, there’s nothing better to sip than a cold pint of cider. Whether from the orchards of Ireland, the gardens of Somerset or the barrels of South Australia, the fruity and refreshing tastes of apple, pear or mixed fruits cider are a welcome accompaniment to summer, and the city makes for the perfect environment to drink it in. So head on down to these cider bars in Sydney and you’ve got yourself a pretty decent afternoon!
Jacksons On George
The iconic Jacksons On George relaunched in August with the first Magners Rooftop Cider Bar in the CBD. That’s right – an entire bar dedicated to the sweet, apple-y tastes and aromas of cider! Head upstairs for the relaxed, open space that reflects the feel of an apple orchard, complete with fake grass, wooden lounge chairs and soft lighting. The Gallagher’s team has rejuvenated all levels of this spectacular venue, so you can also enjoy Guinness Pie on the PJ Gallagher’s menu, or venture downstairs to PJ’s Irish Whiskey Bar for something a little stronger!

Newtown Hotel
Hidden out the back of this famous King Street building is a relaxing escape appropriately titled the Cider Yard. With a tree at its centre adorned with large lights, you can sit around this giant structure with a Bulmers, Bilpin or Kopparberg, the sun beaming from above and your closest friends. With summer fairs dedicated to the drink every year, Newtown Hotel is a favourite for every cider-lover.

The Cidery Bar & Kitchen
Nestled inside Rydges Hotel World Square is a new concept bar launched in August that is dedicated to fermented apples and pears. More than 24 ciders are on offer from local and international breweries with Sydney Cider brewed just downstairs. So that everyone is catered for, there’s also wine, beer and cider-based cocktails served beside small bites such as garlic prawns and pulled pork sliders, all complimented greatly by the luxury dark interiors and soft furnishings.

Hotel Steyne
There’s not really anything you can’t find at Hotel Steyne; they’ve got coffee, sport, Chinese food and spirits. But they also serve up mouth-watering ciders in the Moonshine Cider & Rum Bar. With 16 on tap and even more bottled in the fridge, there’s a glass for everyone. You can sit back with a Hills apple cider or Gypsy pear and listen to live music on Thursdays and Sundays, or just marvel at the shanty shack pirate theme while you sit on old cider crates…
