Craig Horner- Legend of the Seeker
Craig Horner- Legend of the Seeker AUSTRALIAN Craig Horner is the lead in Legend of the Seeker, an action-adventure television show based on the Sword of Truth novels. BBM caught up with him to talk about the first season, which has just hit DVD stores.
What can you tell us about the show?
Craig Horner- Legend of the Seeker I play a guy called Richard Cypher, whose a woodsman but he has a bigger destiny. However, he doesn’t know about it until he meets a great wizard and what’s called a Confessor, which is a girl who is seeking him out to tell him about his destiny.
He learns that he’s destined to kill a tyrant of evil, so he starts off the show as a young man and he eventually matures into the man he is fated to be.
I’d imagine the physical training for the role would’ve been quite intense?
When I first got to New Zealand, where the show is filmed, they filled up our days with horse riding and fight training, which was very cool.
In between scenes, we’d go and learn how to shoot a bow and various things like that. All of the stunt coordinators are the same people who worked on Hercules and Xena: Warrior Princess, so we’ve got some amazing people to help us out.
Were you a fan of Xena and Hercules growing up?
I used to watch Hercules and Xena all the time. I grew up on these shows as a kid and I love the way they were a little tongue-in-cheek. I think that’s what we wanted at that time. Things were a bit serious, so it was fun to escape and watch these people with incredible strength and incredible costumes.
Are you a fan of fantasy shows in general?
I love fantasy and sci-fi. I watched Star Wars a million times as a kid and I was also a big fan of Conan The Barbarian and anything with swords. I loved it all. I’m a real sucker for awesome adventure films like The Princess Bride, too. All of these movies really got to me as a kid.
The very first season of The Legend of the Seeker is available in DVD stores right now.
