Discover The Wilderness Of The Kimberley
With Kimberley Wild, you can discover the blue ocean and sun-orange terrain of this region by day and by night…
At a distance of over 4,000km, the journey from Perth to Darwin isn’t one you can rush, so if you want to see the national parks, beaches, towns, rock formations, lakes and reefs of the west coast, keep 21 days of your year free to travel with Kimberley Wild.
Starting from the Western Australian capital of Perth, your first highlight is the Pinnacles Desert with its unique standing sandstone structures, then onto Kalbarri National Park to see Nature’s Window and Murchison Gorge. You then get to experience your first beach on the trip, Shell Beach, made entirely out of shells.
After the drive up to Shark Bay, you’ll get to meet the famous dolphins of Monkey Mia, before heading to the jewel that is Coral Bay for a visit to the marine life of the Ningaloo Reef. For two days, you can choose to snorkel the turquoise blue waters, or jump on a quad bike on dry land, while staying overnight in the private campsite of Yardi Creek Station. Heading inland, you are welcomed to the striking landscape of Karijni National Park, where gorges, ranges, waterfalls and pools have blessed the region with some of the best picture-perfect moments that you’ll have two full days to take advantage of!
When it’s time to leave the Karijini, you’ll visit the coastal town of Port Hedland, before advancing onto the Pilbara region. Home of Cable Beach, the Staircase To The Moon, and camel rides, you’ll get to spend two days in the pearl fishing town of Broome, but not before a visit to the stunning 80 Mile Beach where white sands caress your feet and cooling waters lap the shore. You’ll also have three nights free stay at Broome Backpackers during this leg of the tour.
Embarking into the outback, you’ll get to meet the freshwater crocodiles of Windjana Gorge, before travelling 600km through the Kimberley region along the Gibb River Road. After two nights at El Questro Station, you’ll visit the Bungle Bungles of Purnululu National Park, camp overnight, and then explore the surrounding chasms, caves and gorges, with the option of a helicopter ride.
Onto Kununurra, you’ll camp at Lake Argyle, and visit the enormous lake the next day, before entering the Northern Territory and the Katherine region. Your final day is spent at Katherine Gorge or Edith Falls, before reaching the tropical city of Darwin.
You can do this entire itinerary with Kimberley Wild, from Perth to Darwin or Darwin to Perth, for $3690pp, so the west coast of Australia is no longer a distant dream.
