Doctor Who Spin-off Latest Chapter for Perth Author
Doctor who spin-off latest chapter for Perth author. PERTH author Chris Thomas has released his latest short story, an official spin-off using characters from the classic era of Doctor Who.
Vampires of the Night features Professor Travers, who appeared in two 1960 Doctor Who stories, and has been included in The HAVOC Files 2 – Special Edition.
“Candy Jar Books in the UK obtained a licence from the original scriptwriters to use certain characters, including Travers and Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, for a range of novels and short stories,” Thomas said.
“Travers was originally in a story called The Abominable Snowmen, set in 1935, and my story touches on what he was up to during World War II before his second appearance in Doctor Who as an older man in the late 1960s.
“Vampires of the Night focuses on Travers uncovering some nasty sleep experiments being done on British soldiers, as the Allies try to create men with more endurance to better fight against the Nazi threat.
“But the experiment backfires terribly and causes some untold horrors to the soldiers who volunteered for the experiment – as well as those trying to keep everything under wraps.”
Thomas has previously dabbled in the world of Doctor Who with his story One Step Forward, Two Steps Back featured in the official collection Doctor Who: Short Trips – Defining Patterns, described by Doctor Who Magazine as “the book’s best piece”.
He is also the author of the novel Journo’s Diary and SMS Mess and other plays, a compilation of scripts he has written for the stage.
“With Vampires of the Night, there was an opportunity to pitch short stories to the publisher and my mind was drawn to a half-remembered urban legend about sleep experiments,” Thomas said.
“I was asked to focus on Travers and World War II and went from there.
“The good thing is that you don’t have to know anything about Doctor Who or the Lethbridge-Stewart series to enjoy my story – but there’s the occasional hidden reference for fans.” Doctor who spin-off latest chapter for Perth author.
