EP Review: Dawn Richard – Whiteout
Trying to capture the sound of R&B, whilst presenting it with a modern Drum & Bass-esc undertone cannot be an easy thing to do. But as we eagerly await her debut album, Dawn Richard has teased us with an EP that intends to do exactly that.
‘Whiteout’ has a vast sound throughout the six tracks, and features spacious rhythms, deep synth pulses and emotionally driven vocals. The beautiful ballad of, ‘Wynter’ is a stunning song packed full of subtle beats that truly shows off the impressive scale of song writing.
Throughout the EP you’ll hear moments of Dubstep and Break-beat, only to be stunned by a change in pace the next minute with Richard’s soulful voice, being backed by electronic pads and throbbing drums.
It’s an exciting listen from start to finish that will no doubt wet your appetite just enough until the full length comes out.
