Exploring Port Douglas This May
With our attentions turning to tropical North Queensland this season, it’s a great time to see what there is to do in Port Douglas this May. A beach town on the edge of the Daintree Rainforest, there’s more than just sunbathing in this idyllic settlement.
Tour The Rainforest
Delve deep into the Daintree Rainforest on an all-day safari that sees you explore the diversity atop a boardwalk, cruise along the river spotting wild crocodiles, walking along the beach of Cape Tribulation and learning the culture and history of the region with an indigenous guide. To make your tour even more memorable, you can extend it overnight and include an activity like a morning horse ride on Myall Beach, kayaking in the ocean’s waters or exploring the rainforest on a night walk. For a unique view of the rainforest, why not surf the jungle in a harness and fly with the birds in the treetops? Like a true flying fox, you can zip along as fast as you wish. Visit www.capetribulationadventures.com.au to choose your tour.

Carnivale
From 22nd – 31st May, Port Douglas comes alive with food, music, comedy, sports and activities for Carnivale. Celebrating everything from craft beer to local performers and fresh produce, the grassy parks and sandy banks of the beach play home to this superb event that focuses on everything that makes Port Douglas great. Tickets and more information for each event are available at www.carnivale.com.au.
Sail to the Great Barrier Reef
One of the nearest towns to the Great Barrier Reef, you can take full or half-day tours to snorkel this great underwater world. As the world’s largest coral reef, the statistics are pretty incredible; more than 6,000 species of flora and fauna call it home, it’s about the size of Japan and it’s made up of
over 900 islands. With stinger season finishing in May, now is a great time to head into the waters and meet the much friendlier visitors to the reef, including whales, dolphins, turtles and colourful fish.
