Film Buff Bucket List – A Superfan’s Guide To Travelling The World The Lord Of The Rings – Matamata, New Zealand
We are starting with one of the most well-known movie locations in the world, and for good reason. The Lord of the Rings is an iconic fantasy series that has been garnering fans worldwide for the better part of a century. For long-time fans of the novels and movie adaptations, this is the ultimate dream destination.
Take a trip to the quaint and peaceful Shire at Hobbiton in Matamata. Here you can take a tour of the hobbit holes of Bilbo, Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippen. Join in as a hobbit yourself, see what it is like to live as they did, and disappear into a beautiful fantasy world. If you’ve made it all the way to New Zealand, there are dozens of other locations used during different scenes of the Lord of the Rings to be checked out. Go and visit the real-life Mt. Doom called Mt. Ngauruhoe, but be prepared – it does look a little different in real life!
The Beach – Maya Bay On The Island Of Phi Phi Leh, Thailand
This particular location is a bit of a polarising one. When the movie The Beach came out it painted this as a hidden tropical paradise. Leonardo DiCaprio fans were soon searching out the location in droves, and it became an overcrowded tourist area. When you have a hidden paradise, it kind of stops being a paradise when others find out about it.
While the beach and ocean view is still as beautiful as ever, this beach has since been closed to tourists and is due to remain that way until 2021 because of damage to the coral reefs from an overflow of tourists. This is just one of the issues that can crop up when places get famous overnight.
Harry Potter Series – Oxford, England
You would be hard pressed to find someone in the modern age that cannot recognise Christ Church College in one form or another. This centuries-old college has been featured in more than one film but is predominantly known as Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. Just the thought of this place existing could bring most children, and adults with an inner child, to their knees with excitement.
The Shining – Oregon, USA
We are going to end with an interesting location that will interest a lot of different movie and television lovers. Stephen King’s The Shining is one of the most well-known horror movies and novels of all time. Front and centre of this story is the sprawling hotel that is the focus of the family’s winter of hell. The Timberline Lodge is the iconic hotel, at least on the outside, that you see throughout the terrifying movie.
Add Them To Your Bucket List
There are just too many iconic movie and television series locations to be able to name them all. If you plan on doing some travelling to visit some of these areas, it would help to narrow it down to some of your most favourite. Even if you plan on travelling for the rest of your life you would be hard pressed to see everything on your list.
