Fly Over The 12 Apostles In A Helicopter
The 12 Apostles is one the most photographed and recognised stretches of the Great Ocean Road. Great big rock towers on the coast with waves crashing against them, they were formed through the erosion of the original coastline, the constant rubbing of the sea gradually wearing down the limestone to leave the individual rocks we see today.
Unfortunately, you can only see seven from the coastline. The rest need a higher viewpoint, which is why, if the opportunity ever arises to jump in a helicopter and see them from up high, you don’t say no.
Before you know it, you’re up in the air, hovering precariously and then moving gradually to the coastal edge. The views are simply stunning and craggy rock formations take on a completely different perspective from 1500 feet.
The ocean seems bluer and more infinite, the Apostles and coastline more rugged and beautiful than any postcard you’ve ever seen. The formation of each individual section is incredible, and just like the clouds in the sky, take on strange images and shapes.
Sweeping over neighbouring beauty spots such as Loch Ard Gorge and London Bridge, the ten-minute ride is inevitably over far too soon.
Once safely on terra firma, you warily clamber out, wishing it was acceptable to be a stubborn child and refuse to get out until you have another go. Fortunately, they helicopter will also be there tomorrow, waiting to take its next lucky passengers for one of the greatest experiences the state of Victoria has to offer.
