Camping
Get away from the crowds and enjoy the serenity of camping and hiking at Lake McKenzie for a night on the famous Fraser Island Lake. Start at the central station, pass the Wanggoolba stream and Lake Basin on the way to the lake and finish the second day at Kingfisher Bay Resort.
Equipment to Carry Along
You can bring camping equipment, such as a tent, hiking backpack, and cooking utensils, as well as maps, routes, permits and return in a 4WD and boat transfers that will take you from Hervey Bay to the starting point in Fraser Island.
Hervey Bay to Fraser Island – Day 1
Your hiking adventure begins with a transfer to the River Heads barge with 4WD, where you will take barge 1015 to Wanggoolba Creek to begin your trek. See the crystal clear Wanggoolba Stream, Lake Basin, and camp exclusively in the camp to walk under the stars of Lake McKenzie, enjoy the tranquility of the lake. Overnight: camping at Lake McKenzie.
Fraser Island to Hervey Bay- Day 2
Wake up with a spectacular view of the sunrise over the lake. Pack your things and travel a few kilometers through Mckenzie Jetty to Kingfisher Bay Resort. You may want to enjoy a drink or hot meal at the resort to celebrate your hike. Familiarize yourself with your transfer in 4wd and watch the dolphins, dugongs and other underwater life while crossing.
Return to Hervey Bay
Back on the mainland, you go back to Hervey Bay, where your tour ends.
