Get Your Tissues Out! John Lewis Unveil New Christmas Ad
If any of you are easily offended by reading/viewing Christmassy things prematurely then navigate away from this page now. You have been warned.
Christmas means many things to different people. Family time, snow, presents galore; there’s a lot to be excited about over the festive season. If you live in the UK though, the annual Christmas ad from department store, John Lewis, warms the cockles of the heart and gets us ready for mulled wine and Santa hat time. If you’re a grumpy cynic, it gets you ready for fist shaking and grumbling. We know which team we’d sooner be on.
This year’s offering sees an animated wonderland tell the story of the bear and the hare. Each year this big old grizzly misses Christmas time because he’s too busy hibernating so the kind hare (plus multiple other woodland creatures) decide to wake him up for a Christmas he’ll never forget.
Now, we know the more sensible (read: boring) amongst you will argue that preventing a bear from hibernating is essentially condemning it to death… but we’re willing to overlook this tiny, insignificant detail in order to bask in the magic of Christmas. Next you’ll be saying that Bambi isn’t real because deer can’t ice skate. Just preposterous.
Lily Allen also provides a nice little backing track in the form of Keane’s ‘Somewhere Only We Know’. Yeah, we know it’s a massive cliché to get a soft-voiced popstar of the female variety to sing a sweet little cover of a sweet little song… blah blah blah. We don’t care. Pull out your best reindeer jumper and Santa socks; Christmas has (almost) arrived.
