Givers – Meantime
Louisana’s own experimental folk-pop, happy clappy five piece ‘Givers’ follow up stunning debut single Up, Up, Up with their new release ‘Meantime’, both taken from their debut album ‘Into the Light’.
Sounding beautifully like a mish-mash of several bands you might know and love – think Go Team, Foals, a splash of Fleet Foxes and a hint of Bombay Bicycle Club (who incidentally provide us with a superb remix as the ‘B’ side to this release) the band certainly benefit from the
versatility of having both a female and male lead who exchange vocals on a track that’s ripe for the alternative stage at a summer festival.
Kicking off with a more than generous nod to 90’s guitar indie pop the track suddenly breaks into a light hearted calypso beat (reminiscent of Stevie Wonder’s Jammin’) as the band unleash their repetitious but rather infectious chorus of ‘Don’t get stuck in the meantime.’
The single flitters in and out of musical styles and genres with surprising ease, clearly showcasing the Cajun and zydeco communities the band was formed from. Clever, or maybe too clever for it’s own good – that’s
up to you. With a first single featured prominently in the hotly coveted new FIFA 12 game, the Givers are well poised to take off.
3 Stars out of 5.
