The Gathering, otherwise known as Harvest festival is fast approaching and is set to be one of the festivals of 2011.With a line-up hot enough to make other festivals green with envy, it truly is the talk on everyone’s lips in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

What Harvest has that other festivals don’t is the long-awaited return to Australia from Portishead. Portishead have spanned a twenty year career together so far but have not been on Australian soil for fourteen years. With infamous hits such as ‘Glory Box’ and ‘Numb’, attendees are sure to see one of England’s finest acts at their best.

Harvest is an adult-only one-day event which includes a plethora of other performers from all over the world, including The Flaming Lips, Bright Eye’s, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and The National.

The promoters themselves describe Harvest as being “not a festival, it’s a feeling” and they have gone about this by choosing 3 very green locations in three major cities in which to hold it at. The atmosphere will be set with ambient lighting, art installations, cocktail bars and holistic markets.

Portishead:
Portishead are an English band from Bristol, formed in 1991 with infamous lead singer Beth Gibbons. They have three studio albums under their belt and have maintained a huge following since they first burst onto the music scene.

The Flaming Lips:
The Flaming Lips are an alternative rock band from Oklahoma. With a discography of thirteen albums and showing no signs of stopping at that, they are a band sure to leave behind a massive legacy.

Hypnotic Brass Ensemble:
Hypnotic Brass Ensemble are an all-male, nine-piece brass band from Chicago where eight of the nine members are brothers. They collaborated on the Gorillaz third studio and album and have toured with Blur.

The National:
The National are an indie-rock band from Brooklyn in New York who have been around for ten years and have toured near and far gaining fans from all over the world. They will no doubt be performing tracks from their most recent album ‘High Violet’.

Many of the acts will be performing side shows and to keep updated of any other news go to the festival website:
