How To Pack Efficiently For Your Holiday

For some, packing their suitcase marks the start of their holiday whereas for others, it’s nothing but additional stress to get away. If you’re travelling around Europe this summer, ensure you renew your E111 card in time to ensure you and your family are eligible to receive medical treatment away from home.
Whether you’ve obtained a fair few air miles or going on your first holiday abroad, packing like a pro isn’t as complex as it sounds. Find our top tips on how to do it:
Write a list
As old school as it sounds, sitting down and writing a list of items you want to pack makes the entire packing process a little less stressful. Take into consideration the length of time you will be away for and checkout the weather forecast for the time you’ll be away. You can then make a firm decision what you will take to avoid over packing.
There’s a fine line between packing and over packing. Don’t take anything unnecessary and avoid heavy items – so leave the extra pair of shoes at home.
Vacuum pack your belongings
A great way to save valuable space is by investing in vacuum packs. Not only do these plastic pockets save space in your suitcase, they also avoid clothes getting creased. If you don’t have the time (or patience) to squeeze the air out, separating your garments into cubes is just as effective.
Nothing is more frustrating that pulling out a tangled set of earphones. To ensure your gadgets remain tangle-free, separate your cords into lockable zip bags – and label them if you need to!
Weigh your luggage prior to the trip
Avoid being charged an additional luggage fee by weighing it before you go. Although there are bespoke luggage scales available online, to save yourself some extra cash, use your bathroom scales for a rough guide so you can rearrange your suitcase and outfit options accordingly.
Packing the heavier items at the lower end of your suitcase, as opposed to by the handle will make it easier for you to handle and ensure it won’t topple over. If you need an item to be easily accessible, pack it in your carry-on or position it at the outer corners of your case so you can grab it when you need it.
Buy travel friendly sized products
If your luggage is over the limit, even by just a bit, ditch your toiletries and repurchase them at the airport. Buying travel friendly products not only will save space in your case and valuable weight, it also saves you money as smaller sized products are a third of the price. Similarly, investing in a pair of mini hair straighteners and a mini hair dryer has the same effect. (Top tip: enquire with your hotel to see what’s available there first). You’re already on your way to becoming a top traveller!
Consider your itinerary
If you have activities planned for your trip, ensure you pack appropriately for them and be prepared for any surprises such as an unplanned romantic meal, day at the waterpark or walk amongst the wildlife.
Happy holidays!
