Imagine an island with 509km of coastline, rock formations that sit staring out into the ocean and beaches with wild sea lion colonies that you can stroll along freely. An island so famous for its wildlife, it’s named after its country’s most iconic furry resident.

The Australian sea lion colony on Seal Bay is one of the most intriguing sights on Kangaroo Island. These funny, cute, playful creatures lounge about on the creamy sand so freely, visitors can walk amongst them.
Flinders Chase National Park is where adventurers go to explore. With a mix of inland wilderness and sweeping coastline, the protected area is home to much of Kangaroo Island’s wildlife and best walking trails.
Remarkable by name, remarkable by nature, these granite boulders sit precariously above the sea and offer fantastic photo opportunities for visitors. There interesting form is a gift from nature, the result of wind, sea spray and rain over 500 million years.
How can Kangaroo Island be called such without having an abundance of the hopping critters? Not only is it teeming with them, those found on Kangaroo Island are a separate breed, and with no natural predators, are the slowest and tamest of their species. The best time to find them grazing is in the early morning or late afternoon.
Arguably the most beautiful stretch of sand on Kangaroo Island, and one of Australia’s best, is Vivonne Bay, located on the south coast. Long, sandy and unbelievably pretty, it is perfect for a day of picnicking, sunbathing, fishing and surfing.
You can walk for days around Kangaroo Island. With its many hiking trails, walking paths and boardwalks, you might discover something completely unique around every corner.
As well as being drop dead gorgeous, Kangaroo Island offers an array of activities including quad biking, kayaking, cycling, sandboarding and surfing.
