Hey Josh, its great to speak to you! You had a busy year last year in the studio and also touring. Are you still excited as ever to be going on tour again?
I’ve been looking forward to coming back to Australia and New Zealand for a while now. I can’t believe how quickly it has come around. I’m really excited!
You played in Sydney back in 2014 with Marco Polo, but, this time, its your own tour all across the two countries. Is that a reflection of how far you’ve come in the last three I years?
The last few years have been a bit of a whirlwind. I guess once I sit down and think about it, I realize that things have been moving quite quickly. I’m feeling really positive about this next tour!
Is there any place in Australia or NZ you are particularly looking forward to visiting?
I grew up on the Bay of Islands in New Zealand and I still keep in touch with some friends who live there. One of my very close mates lives in Perth now, so I’m spending a few extra days there to chill with him.
Are you getting involved with any activities in your free time when you’re not playing your sets?
I have been asked if I want to go bungee jumping in Queenstown…I’m still thinking about it 😉
You did a summer residents at Sankeys in Ibiza. Does playing in a club with such a prestige reputation prepare you to play anywhere in the world, or do you still get nervous?
When I play at the Sankeys basement, I actually feel really comfortable there. In fact, I generally feel at home when I’m behind the decks at any venue.
Well done for gaining so much success with ‘I got a Feeling’. Did you find it more of a challenge to make new music and try and maintain that level or does it come as second nature to you?
To be honest, I haven’t even thought about it. ‘Got a Feeling’ was never intended to be a ‘hit’ and I never tried to follow it with another track. I make music because I enjoy it and I see it as a way of expressing myself.
You’re finishing off your tour in London’s Ministry of Sound, which is such an iconic venue! Do you prefer playing the northern clubs when you back on home soil?
As much as I love playing up North, Ministry of Sound is seriously a great club and it is always an honor to grace those decks.
With so many different sounds influencing house music at the moment, do you try to take a little from everything or do you prefer to stick to your Chicago house type sound that you’ve mastered over the years?
I am influenced by all the music I listen to. This includes anything from dub, reggae, soul, house and techno.
What can we expect from you in 2016 besides the tour? Are there any new projects you can tell us about?
Over the last few weeks I have been in the studio working on some collaborations for a project that will be released later this year. I am also in the middle of releasing my limited vinyl-only series called ‘Kahu’!
Thanks so much for talking to us. Good luck for the rest of 2016!
