Melita Rowston’s 6 Degrees Of Ned Kelly At Sydney Fringe
In a cross between a TED talk and a comedy stand up, Melita Rowston hits Sydney Fringe this year with “6 Degrees of Ned Kelly,” her powerful exploration of the national myth which causes countless Australians to do stupid shit.
Growing up with the family legend that her own grandad had nicked Ned’s bones, Melita soon came to the conclusion that a lot of Australian families seemed to have a connection to the folk hero. But is this post-colonial cool or part of Australia’s fine tradition of tall-tale-telling? Or maybe Ned Kelly just got around?
In her performance, the writer-director-performer explores the tacky tourism industry that has grown around the folk legend, alongside how we connect to each other and seek to transcend ordinariness through story telling and folk legends.
‘6 Degrees of Ned Kelly: A journey into Australian tall-tale-telling at its finest’ crams witty dialogue and humour resulting in “a fitting tribute to tacky Australiana.” Melita will be performing from Wednesday to Saturday at 7pm, and 6pm on Sunday in the Erko Town Hall.
To get your tickets for $25, visit sydneyfringe.com, or save $10 on the concession. Groups of six or more can get in at $20.
