Mini 4WD Action Tour Review
Wings 4WD tour is an awesome 3.5 hour tour 20 minutes outside of Airlie in Proserpine’s bushland. Mike and his crew will pick you up in the Main Street of Airlie Beach, and drive you out to a real Aussie farm where you will enjoy about 1.5 hour of buggy driving!
Safety first, always, you’ll be briefed on safety instructions in the vehicle whilst en route to your destination, which is great as I would have hated spending 20 minutes looking at a brief with a buggy nearby and not being able to jump on it!
As you arrive to the farm, you quickly get dressed (they have helmets, goggles, spare shoes, and ponchos if you need), and you jump in your vehicle for a 20 minutes ride on a fairly easy bush trail all the way to the training centre.
The training centre has a few different obstacles that you get to play with, as well as two balanced plates where you can test your driving abilities and see if you are smooth enough to balance! It was amazing fun, and even beginners get to learn pretty quickly, especially since the bush ride is fairly easy.
To the top of the Mountain!
From there, we headed to the top of the mountain where you can get to see panoramic views of Airlie and the expansive sprawling turquoise ocean in the distance. It was a really unique experience, and we got to see a side of Airlie’s surroundings you’d never get to see on other tours. Tour guide, Mike even got us to take a different route just to try and spot some kangaroos along the way, bringing a bit of nature to our day.
After the bush ride, we headed back to the farm and onto the dirt track – where the action really kicks ins! All getting in line with your mates you take on the twisting track and the understandably muddy mud pit! After you hit the pit for the first time, you’ll really get soaked, so a little word of advice – your phone won’t be ok in the glove box. So if you’re a smart traveller opt for a waterproof case if you’re planning on documenting your adventures!
On this daunting, yet fun track you get to ride the buggies for around 30 minutes, which is more than enough. You’ll also be pleased to know that you can take advantage of the rain water shower afterward and get changed out of your muddy clothes!
Once you’re sparkling clean again it’s time to finish up the tour with a bit of archery – pretty technical, but a really fun way to end the tour.
An awesome way to blow off some steam before we headed up to Cairns and the Daintree, we highly recommend this tour, especially since you get a lot done in a short period of time!
What we learnt:
- Don’t forget a change of clothes and toiletries like us (you will get muddy).
