Sydney Harbour Morning Cruise
If you need last minute inspiration for Valentine’s Day, New South Wales has an abundance of romantic destinations, from spacious parkland to secluded retreats and the sprawling coastline. Take your partner to any one of these, and they’ll be putty in your hands…
Palm Beach
Just 25 miles from the Sydney CBD, Palm Beach is a suburb of the city, and while it’s famous with surfers and soap operas, it also provides long coastal walks for the hopeless romantic. A stretch of sand leads up to Barrenjoey Head and Barrenjoey Lighthouse, and there’s ideal boutique accommodation for a short break from Sydney. Villas with sweeping views and magnificent design are a perfect escape, or you could even sail off on your own private yacht for absolute luxury. You can also take the ferry from Palm Beach to Ettalong, special for its beaches, lagoons, waterways and easy swimming.
Yarrangobilly Caves
Just over five hours from Sydney are the Yarrangobilly Caves, within the extremely pretty Snowy Mountains of Kosciuszko National Park. The caves are not only adventurous, but the stalagmites, stalactites and decorations make them very romantic, especially if you walk through South Glory Cave by yourselves on a self-guided tour. 440 million years old, you won’t want to be dressed up to the nines, but make sure you bring your swimming gear for a relaxing soak in the thermal pool above ground. With flora, fauna and hardly a sound to be heard, you can really while away the hours. To make it a romantic weekend, stay in the lovely Yarrangobilly Caves House, stay in your own self-contained wing and enjoy breakfast on the veranda while you look out at the surrounding park.
Royal Botanic Gardens
With peaceful ponds, fabulous flora and pathways that perfect to stroll along, the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney are the best location for a last minute romantic date if you’re residing in the city. Pack a picnic basket full of your lover’s favourite foods, or book a table at the restaurant. Fleet Steps offers uninterrupted views of the Sydney Harbour by day, but at night, the Open Air Cinema screens your favourite movies until 21st February in a romantic waterside setting.
Rainforest Retreat
It doesn’t have to be Valentine’s Day to spend a night at Crystal Creek Rainforest Retreat. Guaranteed peace and privacy, enter a world surrounded by World Heritage Sites in the Tweed Valley. Crystal Creek is set within 250 acres of pristine rainforest, with 400-year-old trees, bubbling brooks and complete tranquillity. To compliment the surroundings, you have the choice of bungalows, lodges and cabins with floor-to-ceiling windows, private decking, plunge pools and ample amount of space to relax and unwind. Outside of your accommodation, you can explore the rainforest on designated walking tracks, relax with a couples massage, or bask in the sun of the orchard. They also specialise in romantic gestures and proposals!
Wildlife Park
If your other half likes cute and furry animals – and let’s face it, who doesn’t? – and wouldn’t mind watching them all day, you could always go to one of the wildlife parks in NSW. Featherdale Wildlife Park in Doonside has all of your favourite and iconic Australian animals, including kangaroos, koalas and emus, and you can even learn a thing or two about courtship from the birds that mate for life, and watch the two young koalas, Aria and Archer, get up to mischief together – cute!
