Explore Kakadu National Park
At 20,000 square kilometres, it’s no surprise that Kakadu is home to some incredible beauty spots. From waterfalls to rivers and rock art to sunset views, this sprawling adventure playground is best explored between April and October when the heat is less intense and the waterfalls more accessible. A couple of hours’ drive from Darwin, the infamous saltwater crocodile can also be found here, particularly on a cruise of the Mary River wetlands.

Watch The Camel Cup
Like no sporting event you’ve ever seen before, the Camel Cup takes place in the outback town of Alice Springs, and yes – camels play an important role. In 2016, the Camel Cup will be held on 9th July, and will see camels and their riders race towards the finish line in an iconic and quirky spectacle. There are nine races scheduled throughout the day, so you’re bound to see some interesting entertainment!
Dive With Crocodiles
Darwin is the only place in Australia where you can go diving with crocodiles. The Cage of Death within Crocosaurus Cove involves a five-metre croc, a transparent cylinder cage and you. After being lowered into the croc’s pool enclosure, you spend 15 minutes right up close with the big beast, even being able to see it feed from a handler. Experience it solo or with a friend – just make sure you do it.
Browse Mindil Beach Sunset Markets
You may not consider a simple market up there with croc diving and camel racing, but Darwin’s Mindil Beach Sunset Markets isn’t just any market. Running during the dry season from April to October, you can soak up the tropical atmosphere with fresh juices, international cuisine and local crafts, before taking in the view of the beautiful sunset from the beach.
Spend The Night At Uluru
One of the icons of Australia is the big red rock called Uluru. Also known as Ayers Rock, you can spend the night nearby Uluru in Kata Tjuta National Park, to see the dramatic colours and shades of the rock during sunset and sunrise. A spectacular sight, there are many tours departing from Alice Springs that give you the chance to see Uluru in all its glory.
