How To Get A Temporary Job In Sydney?

Follow us on Google News

Sydney is among the world-wide top 8 most livable cities, according to Global Livability Ranking 2015.   It was also named the most affordable city for young people to live, thanks to its high minimum wage.

a. Applying for Visa

If you are under 31 and don’t find your job listed on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) or Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) of Australia, or are struggling to find a company to employ you before you move, you can apply for a working holiday visa which entitles you to live and work in Australia for a year.

Working Holiday Maker Program

If you are between 18 – 30 years and hold a passport for a country or region participating in Australia’s Working Holiday Maker Program, you may be eligible to apply for a 12-month visa which enables you to work while you are there.  If you work in regional areas for 88 paid days, in certain circumstances this can be extended to a further 12 months.

Working holiday visa subclass 417

You can apply for a working holiday visa subclass 417, if you hold a passport from Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hongkong, Republic of Ireland, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan and the UK.

There are endless work opportunities in Australia for the working holiday maker.  Many of them pay higher wages than other countries. The wages can be listed as follows;

Temporary Job Wages (AUS $)
Bar-tender 20 – 24 per hour
Waiter (with tips + discounted meals) 19 per hour (starting)
Au pair (working with children)with free board and meals 80 – 125 (per 45h work week)

Fruit picker 245 per day
Receptionist 24 per hour
Administration Assistant 28 – 54 per hour
Construction Worker 19 per hour

Here are some ways to get a temporary job (only 6 months with one employer) on your Australian working holiday;

  1. Use a working holiday support program
  2. Meet potential employers face to face
  3. Conduct a job search online
  4. Enlist a recruitment agency
  5. Get work along the way
