One To Watch: SOAK
A new month, a new talented singer-songwriter to be unveiled by BBM. This April we introduce you to a ‘Short Irish kid who appreciates dragons and dinosaurs,’ as her bio describes.
SOAK A.K.A Bridie Monds-Watson is a mere 17 years of age with a delicate and beautiful talent for vocals and guitar. The alluringly unique youngster hails from Derry/London-Derry and already has a vast collection of EPs behind her, despite having only picked a guitar up around four years ago.
In cute boyish apparel, the small and dainty SOAK contrastingly shows a big heart through her soothing and soft vocals, with twinkling guitar chords. She recently demonstrated her rising talent in supporting BBC-Sounds-of-2014-praised George Ezra, including his big London show at Dingwalls.
Previously released EPs include ‘Trains’ and ‘Sea Creatures’. Bridie Monds-Watson explores common situations with a touching spark, relating interfering people to creatures from the sea. “I know there’s monsters in your house, I’ll be your ghost buster,” she sings innovatively on ‘Trains’. SOAK’s lyric writing beholds a childish element of fun, yet their emotive abilities express that she is beyond her years.
SOAK recently released her third EP ‘Blud’, four tracks further demonstrating her creative writing and sweet voice. And it even includes a remix from Alternative Scottish Electronic group CHVRCHES.
