Oz Job Tips: CV Presentation Guide For Teaching in Australia Here’s Smart teachers top 5 tips for Australian CV presentation
- 3 pages is ideal. They say the average employer looks at a CV for no more than 90 seconds- keep it short and keep it relevant!
- Consider including a professional photo- no selfies! Professional attire with a basic background. Do not include any photos of students on your CV
- Highlight any extra-curricular responsibilities- our Head Teachers in Australia love to see involvement in school activities
- If you have worked in another industry that is not related to teaching, limit this on your CV to a few sentences at most. You shouldn’t delete it from your CV as gaps in employment dates sometimes can read as periods of unemployment so you should include all your work experience. Be mindful- that Head Teacher doesn’t really need to know a detailed list of your responsibilities at Sainsbury’s!
- Save space- Don’t include your A level or GSCE results on an Australian CV- our system is too different and this doesn’t translate. Australian teachers tend to not put their VCE/HSC results on their CVs.
- Include what visa you are travelling on. As a recruiter, the ‘right to work’ is the first thing I search for on a CV!
- Finally, spell check!
