Papa vs Pretty (Interview)
Papa vs Pretty (Interview) Since talking to BBM last November things have really started to pick up pace for Tom Rawle, Tom Myers and Angus Gardiner (aka Papa vs Pretty).
Papa vs Pretty (Interview) Having released their latest EP, the Paul Dempsey produced Heavy Harm, to critical acclaim, the trio have been non-stop performing with a string of high profile festival performances serving only to boost their fast growing fanbase. With the Gum Ball festival on the horizon, Rawle sees the festival circuit as a “lot of fun. It is kind of weird playing such big stages, because the bigger the stage the softer the sound is.” So with only three members do the band find playing on a bigger stage somewhat daunting?
Myers admits “it is hard to get a vibe going,” before Rawle interjects. “There are only three of us as well, so you have kind of got to jump around off the lights and things. It is not like we are a seven-piece who could easily fill it. You have to fill it with running around.”
With life currently so hectic, the boys have been lucky to grab a few days off between Pyramid Rock and their Hot Hot Heat support slot, so instead of stressing about the impending recording of their debut album they have instead been battling eachother at football on their games console. However, their excitement for what lies ahead is more than evident as we meet over lunch at Richmond’s packed out Cheeky Monkey.
With their current EP already displaying their depth and diversity, what can be expected of the “already written” record? Gardiner feels that “with the album there is still a lot of breadth to move from the heavier into the ballady territory. I think it is just a bit more cohesive than the EP.”
