Perth to Monkey Mia

Follow us on Google News

The journey from Perth to Monkey Mia is a long, fun-filled one – with plenty to see and do on the way. If you have to make this drive as part of your travels, you may be despairing at the thought of driving this far but fear not! There is so much to do on the way that you can make it part of your journey and have fun along the way.

Geraldton

This quaint little trading port is steeped in Australian history so check out the memorials which honour those who lost their life here in WWII. Or join a tour of the memorials and the shipwrecks gallery which includes life-size replicas.

Kalbarri

From here, move onto Kalbarri, keeping an eye out for the famous Greenough trees that grow sideways due to the strong winds that come up from the south. Pink Lake offers some great photo opportunities to those who want some Insta-worthy shots.

Denham

Denham is the gateway to the Shark Bay World Heritage Area – and the most western town in the country. Check out the Hamelin Pool stromatolites – the oldest living fossils in the world. You can also book tours to Monkey Mia from here as it’s so close.

Monkey Mia

Now you’ve reached your destination, there’s no time to stop as there’s still plenty to do here. Head out early to see the first bottlenose dolphin feeding at 7:30am. This is a popular tour so the earlier you go, the more likely you are to beat the crowds.
You can also take a catamaran tour to see the sea turtles and dugongs. Or if you prefer to stay on dry land there are camel treks over the beaches of Shark Bay which are just breath-taking.
