Punk Legends Cosmic Psychos Play At The Espy – Friday 1st November 2013
Cosmic Psychos have been together for 30 year now, and what a great 30 years it has been. Their recent documentary titled ‘Blokes You Can Trust’ presents the bands successes over the years in addition to an insight at their lives before fame. The Aussie legends influenced bands such as Pearl Jam and Nirvana in the late eighties and have continued to grow as a Punk group over the years.
The band was originally named Spring Plains until bassist, guitarist and vocalist Ross Knight joined the group in 1984, making the band what they are today. After releasing their first album ‘Down on the Farm’ way back in 1985, the band became a part of the ‘Seattle’ scene of the late 80’s, surrounded by the likes of Pearl Jam and The Melvins. The Punk rockers went on to release several successful albums and went on numerous national tours and international tours to Europe and North America thanks to their huge fan base. They even performed at festivals alongside fellow rockers Nirvana, Mudhoney and Motörhead.
To celebrate the release of their documentary and their 30 years of crowd pleasing and head banging, the Cosmic Psychos will be returning to The Espy for a crazy night of Punk, beer and more beer!
“I think the Cosmic Psychos were a band that was highly influential on the Seattle so called grunge scene. I know that Kurt and Nirvana were fans, they played shows with Pearl Jam. Even though the Cosmic Psychos never had the commercial impact or success that those bands had, they were still a major influence on them, and I think a lot of it had to do with the spirit and the sound of their music” states Butch Vig, who produced albums such as Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’.
