Beginning the 1st of March of this year, a total of 200 citizens from Australia and Vietnam aged between 18 and 30 years old are going to become eligible to enter Australia and Vietnam through the Work and Holiday Visa program.
The program has become possible through the recently signed partnership between the 2 countries which allows a given number of young individuals to either work or spend a vacation, or even both, in each other’s countries.
Through the Work and Holiday Visa program, Vietnam has become the most recent addition to a number of countries thast already have subclass 462, such as Argentina, Bangladesh, Chile, China, Indonesia, Israel, Malaysia, Poland, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, the United States of America, and Uruguay.
Australia has signed a similar agreement in February with 3 other countries: Hungary, Luxembourg, and San Marino.
”Young Vietnamese and Australian citizens now have the opportunity to apply for a unique cultural exchange experience,” said Mr Craig Chittick, the Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, during an interview with the press. ”This will increase understanding between the peoples of our two countries, and contribute greatly to our economic, security and innovation partnerships.”
Talks on the bilateral tourism program started in 2014, the agreement however, was not formalised until March 18th of 2015. According to both parties, the program aims to open both countries to each other’s young citizens so they can participate and immerse in this exchange of cultures and mutual experience learning, as well as the strengthening of comprehensive cooperation.
This visa giver permission to a visitor to stay in the country for 12 months. During this time, they can study up to 4 months and work for up to 6 months. The visitor is also given the unlimited privilege to leave and re-enter the country as long as the visa is still valid.
It was also announced by Mr Chittick that the program would reopen on the 1st of July, every year.
