
Rich Mix Celebrates 10th Anniversary Of Love Music Hate Racism
East London’s independent cinema and arts centre Rich Mix will join forces with Love Music Hate Racism (LMHR) during September to celebrate their 10th Anniversary.
Throughout the month, LMHR will take over Rich Mix’s Mezzanine Gallery to host an exhibition celebrating the Rock Against Racism movement of the late 1970s, as well as LMHR posters and memorabilia.
LMHR continue to use the energy of the music scene to celebrate diversity and involve people in anti-racist activity. In the past 10 years they have hosted hundreds of events with the support from such artists as Ms Dynamite, Hard-Fi, Babyshambles, Akala, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, Estelle, The View, Lethal Bizzle, Roll Deep and Basement Jaxx.
On Saturday 15 September, LMHR will take over Rich Mix for a day of live music, film screenings, talks and debates. Artists and personalities involved include Jerry Dammers, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, Don Letts, Michael Rosen, Ken Livingstone, Mark Steel, Pandit G, Paul Gilroy, Salma Yaqoob, Hugh Lanning, Drew McConnell, Zita Holbourne, Eddie Freeman, Martin Smith, Wyman Bennett, Christine Blower, Elly Barnes and Morris Beckman.
This season Rich Mix will take part in two major film festivals including The 56th BFI London Film Festival in partnership with American Express and Film Africa 2012: Celebrating African Cinema, as well as hosting a day of documentaries and discussion focusing on Latin America with their ongoing documentary partner DocHouse.
Rich Mix’s main space plays host to live music three to five nights a week, and this season will feature performances including Red Baraat, Krar Collective, Macmillan’s Big Mix Festival, Bollywood Brass Band, Brassroots Brass Band Bash, Algerian Cultural Festival, Dash Café, Seckou Keita, London Jazz Festival, London Remixed Festival, London Quadiri-Boutchichi Sufi Festival and Tropicalista.
Rich Mix will host nine exhibitions in their three galleries, which are free to attend, open to all, and encompass a plethora of media from photography to film to sculpture to painting.
