Single Review: Nelly Furtado – Big Hoops

Whilst BBM is holed up on a Saturday night with some London-centric lergie, naturally one begins to snoop around t’interweb, dreaming of days when one is well enough again to start rampaging dance floors the world over looking bad ass. So this lead to looking for photos of Nelly Furtado in a certain music video in order to attempt to recreate some fierce streak of yellow eyeshadow (BBM’s daring) – alas – we were confronted by her awesome new tune ‘Big Hoops’.

Yes Nelly Furtado is back, and looking as cool as every. ‘Big Hoops’ starts with an infectious repetition “the bigger, the better, the bigger, the better” and we’re instantly hooked. A dirty bass sidles in and you know it’s going somewhere good. Although her reedy voice is a little much throughout the whole tune, and there are moments when you are longing for the track to loop back to the initial hook, it’s all made ok by the end when it all stops…and BANG! A little drum and bass drops and finalises the tune.

Like it or hate it, we are sensing some immense remixes on the horizon, so listen out for this on a dance floor near you.
