Single Review: Ray LaMontagne – Supernova
With his album of the same name, acclaimed Folk spectacular Ray LaMontagne shoots back into our airwaves with new single ‘Supernova’, released in April 2014.
Having won the Best Contemporary Folk Album for 2010’s ‘God Willin’ & The Creek Don’t Rise’, the music world has been waiting with bated breath to see what’s next from the extraordinary songwriter.
Brimming with clap-along upbeat tempos, ‘Supernova’ is the inevitable sound of summer. The audible croaky rasp in LaMontagne’s voice is ever present, almost a replica of Van Morrison’s ‘Brown Eyed Girl’. “I want you to be my girl”, LaMontagne sings, perfecting his harmonies alongside an obviously poppy track that features his renowned Folk touch making subtle but satisfying appearances.
If the album is anything like the single, ‘Supernova’ is yet another success to add to LaMontagne’s outstanding discography.
